The new year is looking up ... really high up.
This young giraffe is just a few days old and is already 5 ft. 7 in. tall. Weighing 127 pounds, she was born to father Jafari and mother Tesa at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Tampa, Fla.
The newborn is part of the park's reticulated (a term that refers to the animals' pattern of spots) giraffe population, now 18 strong.
The giraffe and her mother are safely out of the public's view and will be sheltered as the baby nurses and grows. By spring, they will join the rest of the herd.
