A man kayaking in the Gulf of Mexico encountered a dog swimming in the water. After rescuing the pup, he discovered that the dog belonged to a woman who had been killed in a Sarasota, Fla., hit-and-run by a drunk driver. The dog has since been reunited with the woman's family. –ABC Action News
Pitcher Mark Buehrle recently signed with the Miami Marlins, but cannot live in Miami-Dade County because he owns a pit bull. The breed has been banned in the area since 1989. Buehrle said that "it's kind of ridiculous that because of the way a dog looks, people will ban it." –Miami Herald

An 8-year-old girl from Chillicothe, Ohio, has been volunteering with her local humane society and is now calling on her community to help homeless animals. In a letter, she writes, "Bring cat food, cat litter, food bowls, dog and cat toys and dog food, but most of all please adopt." –Chillicothe Gazette
