The Mentalist star splits time between his California home and his native Australia – and his schnoodle Happy also gets to take advantage of a second residence.
Because Happy can't make the trip Down Under, "He has become kind of a time-shared dog," Baker tells PEOPLE. "[Our family friends] looked after Happy once and they forged this wonderful relationship."
In fact, though the Bakers have been home for a couple weeks following their holiday vacation in Australia, Happy remains with his surrogate family. And the star thinks that Happy prefers it that way.
"He's a dog," Baker says laughing. "He's getting loved and fed and walked in both environments. He's got a bigger world now, more neighborhoods to sniff around."
