Adopt Me! Shasta Is a Glass Half Full Kind of Girl

When the 4-year-old dog arrived at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter in Tuscaloosa, Ala., last fall, there was reason to believe she may have been someone's lost pet. No one ever claimed her, but that didn't bring this spry girl down.
Though she's a bit timid around strangers, Shasta "has a glass half full kind of personality," says adoption manager Jennifer Earp. "She's happy-go-lucky."
Regular walks and routine playtime is a must for this "very active" girl, but once she's gotten all her wiggles out, she's happy to sit quietly with someone she trusts. "She is content being by the handler's side," Earp says.
This lively dog would be best in a home without other dominant canines or very young children. "She does get along very well with children over the age of 10," says Earp. "She is just so energetic and jumpy so we would not recommend her with toddler-aged children."
Shasta walks well on a leash and is eager to learn. She's also super curious about one other shelter resident: cats. "If they run from her, she will chase them," she says. "But Shasta has never shown any aggression toward cats."
