She was a daughter, a girlfriend, a lady dog and a little slice of heaven, and now, Cheyenne Jackson must learn to live without her. The actor's 9-year-old Rottweiler mix, Zora, has died.
"Rest in peace my beloved Zora," Jackson wrote last week on his WhoSay page
. "You were witness to all the REAL moments of our lives and what we cherished most. Love you forever."
Jackson met Zora at New York City's ASPCA center nine years ago when she was just a puppy. She followed Jackson everywhere, including to the set of 30 Rock
, and she inspired her new owner to become a passionate advocate for animal rescue.
"She's really touched my life," Jackson told PEOPLE
in 2010. "I think having a dog makes you more compassionate."
After he announced Zora's passing, Jackson felt a return of some of that compassion. "Thank u to the colossal outpouring of love and condolences I've received from thousands of u today," he wrote on Twitter
. "It really does help."
