"I am delighted to support the launch of Cruelty Free International, the exciting global campaign to end the use of animals in product testing," he says in a new video for the organization.
As an ambassador, Gervais hopes to bring awareness to the still common practice of animal testing, which remains legal in over 80 percent of the world. He encourages concerned citizens around the globe to petition their governments for a ban.
"Thousands of animals could continue to die for the sake of a new shampoo, which is ridiculous," he says, while sharing screen time with a bouncing bunny. "It's time to close the door on testing products on animals."
The cause seems near and dear to Gervais's heart, who himself is the proud dad of a Siamese cat named Ollie.
