Home. Some cats and dogs never have one to call their own. We want to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary homeless pet every week. Today, we'd like you to meet Scotty, a 1-year-old Peruvian Inca orchid.
Scotty is living proof that you can find purebred dogs at animal shelters. The pup's previous owner bought the canine from a breeder, but needing to relocate, gave him up to the Humane Society of Broward County on April 14 .
Peruvian Inca orchids have little to no hair, making them more high-maintanence then your average pooch. In the winter, they require clothing; and in the summer, their skin needs protection, too. "He's sensitive to sun, and needs to wear sunscreen and moisturizer," says shelter spokesperson Cherie Wachter.
Whoever adopts this 20-lb. pooch better be prepared for long walks, too. "No matter where you walk this dog, everyone is going to stop and ask you about him," she says. "He's so strange looking, but he's a sweetheart."
Playful, great with children and dogs, and a very well-behaved car passenger, Scotty is a really a gem who just wants to be loved. He's definitely a standout, says Wachter. "I've been here 16 years, and he's only the second one I've ever seen."
If you can see yourself strutting beside this stunning pup, contact the Humane Society of Broward County at (954) 989-3977, ext. 3.
