The cat is out of the bag!
A stray that was stranded on top of a light pole with a Doritos bag on its head survived a 20-ft. plunge after authorities tried to rescue it last week.
The cat was first spotted by St. Petersburg, Fla., resident Johnny Jones as he lounged on his balcony, the Kentucky Post reports.
"It tried to swipe the bag off a couple of times, but it was losing its balance," Jones said. "It just stood there from then on."
Soon the St. Petersburg Fire Department showed up to rescue the animal, which was dangerously close to live power lines. But before they could safely grab it, the cat got spooked and jumped 20 feet to the ground – and somehow landed on its paws. The bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos flew off during the plunge, and the uninjured feline ran off behind a house.
How did the cat end up climbing a pole wearing a bag of chips? "Maybe it was hungry and stuck its head in the bag," Jones said. "You know stray cats."
