Home. Some cats and dogs never have one to call their own. We want to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary homeless pet every week. Today, we'd like you to meet Troopie, a hound mix who hails from Puerto Rico.
Troopie is always full of enthusiasm – and it's most likely because he's dying to tell anyone who will listen about his international travels! The 7-month-old's first few months of life were spent in Puerto Rico, where he was rescued by the All Sato Rescue
, a non-profit dedicated to saving strays. Troopie and a group of puppies boarded a plane bound for Connecticut, where a driver was waiting to pick them up. He was then taken to the Sterling Animal Shelter in Massachusetts, where he's been since March 22.
Though his pals found forever homes fairly quickly, Troopie is still waiting. His boundless energy often "turns people away," says shelter staffer Brenda Frost. But the friendly dog is really just excited to give kisses to as many people as he can.
Troopie's vigor would be perfectly channeled by playing ball, hiking, or walking around town. He doesn't know any commands yet, but he's very smart, eager to learn and already walks well on a leash.
This pup is definitely a charmer. "He has a huge personality," says Frost. "He was probably somebody's dog [at one point] because he's not afraid of anybody."
