A new study of hypoallergenic dog breeds found that such dogs had more allergy-causing protein in their fur, and that the air in their owners' homes contained no less of the allergen than non-hypoallergenic dogs. "The term 'hypoallergenic' is a misnomer that is not evidence based," the study concluded. –Reuters

After discovering a disabled kitten near her Florida home, artist Carrie Hawks is caring for the young cat, which was born without a pelvis or hind legs. Despite its condition, the cat is able to maneuver around on its front legs and will not be fitted with a prosthetic anytime soon. –Daily Mail

A Philippine crocodile named Lolong was declared the largest in captivity by the Guinness World Records. "We're really proud because it proves the rich biodiversity of our place," said Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde, "but at the same time, there are fears that Lolong may not be alone." –AP



Certain varieties of canned Pedigree dog food are being recalled for posing a choking hazard. A select few weight management varieties were found to contain small pieces of blue plastic that entered the food during the production process. –Philadelphia Inquirer
