The mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, has had a 15-year run and is showing no signs of stopping.
Except this mayor has four legs, meows and enjoys a mid-day catnip treat. Stubbs, a 15-year-old part-Manx cat, was named honorary mayor of the small town soon after he was born, in a write-in campaign that he won.
In the years since, Mayor Stubbs has become a tourist attraction, according to KTUU Channel 2 News, and guides take visitors to Nagley's General Store, Stubbs's hangout of choice.
"Oh my gosh, we probably have 30 to 40 people a day come in who are tourists wanting to see him," says Nagley's employee Lauri Stec.
Another store worker, Skye Farrar, says that Stubbs has been a positive force within the community. Farrar says, "I'm very confident that Talkeena will be A-OK, as long as we have Stubbs around."
