The baby ape, known as Kalabatu, was discovered alone in the forest after her mother was killed. She was taken to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, a rehabilitation project in Malaysia, where she is now receiving care from the staff there.
Kalabatu's fate is not uncommon among orangutans in Asia, where as the forest is destroyed by loggers, many animals become orphaned. Eventually, after being trained to live in the wild, Kalabatu will be released back into the forest.
