Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, we'd like you to meet Elsa, a black mouth cur mix who was given up in March.
This 4-year-old sweetheart was surrendered to the PAWS Shelter and Humane Society in Kyle, Texas, by her elderly owners because she pulled too hard on her leash. Being completely deaf, Elsa responds to hand signals – for commands like sit, down, good and stay – which inmates from the local Cell Dog Program taught her. Earlier this year, she was certified as a Canine Good Citizen.
This upbeat and energetic dog's world may be silent, but she'll do everything in her power to understand those around her. "She's really attentive when you walk up to her cage," says adoptions counselor Jacque Smith. "She's really just like any other dog."
Elsa is trusting, friendly and really wants to work, so a long walk every day would be a great task for her.
"After her job is done, she's happy to curl up with you in the evenings," reads a bio on the shelter's website. "The staff at PAWS is doing everything they can to give her extra attention, but she's having a tough time being in the shelter."
A comfortable home without other dominant dogs would be the perfect place for Elsa. She's lived with six cats in the past, so she's open to having more feline friends.
