Three people were injured when a carriage horse in New York City unexpectedly bolted, sending its driver and two passengers tumbling to the ground and leaving a trail of wreckage behind it. The horse ran for four blocks, injuring two cars along the way, before being caught. –New York Times

A Georgia college student who cared for abandoned animals was killed by a dog attack. Rebecca Carey had five dogs living with her at the time of her death, and all of them were euthanized after her cause of death was identified as dog bites. –Fox News

With the help of friends and concerned strangers, a couple was able to rescue a dying German shepherd they found abandoned on Mount Bierstadt in Colorado. After getting the dog, named Missy, down to safety and treated by a vet, the couple is now looking to adopt her, but her original owner wants her back. An investigation is pending as to whether Missy's owner is guilty of animal cruelty. –ABC News



The Los Angeles Best Friends Pet Adoption & Spay Neuter Center has launched a virtual pet room called iPet Companion, which allows users to see live video its free-roam room and manipulate real cat toys to play with the shelter's cats. "It's a great way for cats at our pet adoption center to be showcased," said the center's marketing specialist, Sarah Schanz. –Los Angeles Times
