It's Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week, and we want to help find homes for some of the less desirable – but no less deserving! – pets out there. Today, we'd like you to meet Chance, a handsome senior cat with easy to manage medical issues.
When he was given up by his owner in June 2011, the no-kill Hermitage Cat Shelter in Tucson, Az., discovered the fluffy Himalayan had an overactive thyroid and early stage kidney disease. To stay alive, he requires a pill everyday to control his thyroid and a special diet to support his kidneys.
Chance, now 13, is a great sport when it comes to his pills, which cost approximately $15 a month. "He takes his medication very well in some food," says cat care manager Jackie Moan. "We just give him a little bit of wet food in the morning and he just scarfs it right down."
The pretty kitty loves to be around people ("He's usually the first one to greet you when you walk in a room," says Moan), but other cats? Not so much.
"He's a bully to other cats," she says. "If we get a new cat in his area, he's not happy with them."
Chance needs a dedicated owner, one without young children or other pets, who will be there for him and give him the cuddles he craves. "He's a lap cat, he just kinda sits there and wants to hang out," Moan says. "I think he would do really well with an older person who is retired and has all the time in the world to care for him – and he'll care for them."
