It's National Dog Week, and in honor of all the awesome dogs out there without a place to call home, we bring you Shasta, a sweet Weimaraner who is waiting for a place to hang her hat.
This friendly 8-year-old dog was given up by the family who raised her when they relocated from Michigan to Washington state. She's now being fostered in Lakewood, Ohio, by the Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue and though life as Shasta once knew it has completely changed, she's not depressed about it.
"She's a sweetheart," says the rescue's executive director, Tonette Bogner. "She's very affectionate and very social."
The intelligent senior dog, who doesn't act her age, is so upbeat that she's serving as a companion dog for a sick 2-year-old dog named Ferris.
"She's just there to have canine interaction with him," she says. "She keeps him company and they play together. She provides him comfort as well."
Ferris loves being with Shasta as does everyone who meets her, including children, with whom she's very familiar. This pretty silver-colored dog loves to be inside with her humans and snuggle up by their feet.
"She's kind of goofy, which most of our Weims are," says Bogner. "We call them Velcro dogs; you'll never have another private bathroom moment because they just want to be where you are, no matter where that is."
