California hunters will have to leave their hounds at home. According to one of the bills Gov. Jerry Brown announced signing Wednesday, those hunting bears and bobcats can no longer use their dogs; the bill received support from the Humane Society of the United States.

A Welsh couple died Wednesday during what is speculated to be an attempt to rescue a dog from a river. Although that motive couldn't be confirmed, witnesses say they saw the 27- and 25-year-olds walking five dogs along the water, which was raised higher than usual because of rainfall.
