Never send a man to do a dog's job!

That's what Penny Blackwell learned when her golden retrievers, 4-year-old Baxter and 6-year-old Bailey, went missing on Sept. 25 from her Sandwich, Mass., home.

After being alerted to their disappearance, Blackwell spent several days searching the neighborhood, and was often helped by the many Good Samaritans who responded to her Facebook posts about her missing pets.

But after two weeks with no clues about the dogs's whereabouts, Blackwell had nearly given up hope – until a friend contacted her and let her know that Baxter had found his way to a friend's home.

Blackwell picked up Baxter on Oct. 8, but brought him back to the residence where he'd been staying to look for Bailey. Luckily, Baxter knew just where to take his Mom from there.

"We were just kind of walking along and all of a sudden Baxter started to guide me off the trail and into the really, really thick woods," Blackwell told ABC News. "And there was poor old Bailey, his leash all tangled up in the bushes."

"The poor thing. He was so happy to see me I could barely get his leash untied," she continued. "He was trying to jump all over me and lick me. It was quite the reunion."

Knowing how lucky she was have to her pair of pooches returned to her, Blackwell is not taking any more chances with the adventurous twosome – she's considering outfitting them with GPS trackers.
