British soldiers honored one of their own Thursday, a bomb-sniffing springer spaniel who died in Afghanistan when his human partner was killed. He was posthumously given the Dickin Medal, which is Britain's most-esteemed award recognizing the courage of animals. –CBS News

Los Angeles lawmakers voted on Wednesday in favor of an ordinance banning pet stores from selling dogs, cats and rabbits received from commercial breeders. Although individuals will still be able to purchase pets directly from breeders, the law will make L.A. the largest U.S. city to institute such a ban. –Los Angeles Times
