Halloween shouldn't be scary for your pets. To keep furry friends safe, all costumes should be equipped with identification tags. And don't force pets to stay costumed all night if they're noticeably uncomfortable. –CNN

In the wake of Sandy, shelters in New York City and Long Island, N.Y., are housing nearly 400 animals. Even hotels that typically don't allow pets are accommodating non-human guests as people recover from the storm. In addition, all 76 of N.Y.C.'s evacuation shelters are pet-friendly. –USA Today



A deer is in the possession of the Animal Control and Humane Society after it was rescued from the surf at a beach in New Jersey during Hurricane Sandy. ACHS is hoping to nurse the deer, who was discovered with a broken leg, back to health. –NBC New York
