Adopt Me! Loving Mother Kenmore Is a Survivor

In August, a dog on a walk with his owner came across a Kenmore microwave box that was duct-taped shut and sitting next to a Dumpster. The dog wouldn't leave the box, and when it was opened, a dog that had recently given birth was discovered inside – with six of her nine puppies already dead.
The 2-year-old schnauzer/Shar Pei mix and her three surviving pups were taken to the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, Tx., where the dehydrated young mother – later named Kenmore – received plenty of fluids and TLC.
"She ate like there was no tomorrow," says Loretta Hyde, founder of the rescue. "When she first came in she wasn't your typical mother. She wasn't aggressive with the pups. She was just so grateful to be fed and have water and to have some attention."
Kenmore's three charges have been adopted but she is still waiting for her forever home. The sweet, affectionate dog would be a great companion for almost anyone. "She's a real love with people," says Hyde, who adds that she was the most tidy new mother in the shelter's Mommy Room, where she stayed for 8 weeks.
The housetrained dog is "slightly particular" about other canines, but given a proper introduction, she's likely to warm up.
