Animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals's blood is boiling in response to an after-party celebrating The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. In a nod to the werewolves featured in the films, the L.A. bash showcased three caged wolves. "Didn't it dawn on the Twilight event organizers that real wolves do not belong at a party with blaring music and flashing lights?" said a rep from PETA. –The Wrap

Aishat Maksudova, a 56-year-old resident of a Southern village in Russia, was forced to fend off a wolf attack while herding sheep and cattle. As the animal clawed away at her hand, Maksudova, "took the axe and hit him on his head," she said. –Gawker

Meet Cheeto, the kitten rescued and nursed back to health by an independent filmmaker. After finding the feline, who was "nothing but fur and bones," in the mountains of Virginia while on-set, Chase Conner documented Cheeto's recovery in a series of photographs. –ABC News



Peanut, Jungle Island's 8-year-old orangutan who made headlines for receiving cancer treatment, is no longer undergoing chemotherapy in Miami. Her doctors decided to halt the treatment because they say they're confident she received "an adequate course of therapy." –AP

Great white sharks most likely descended from broad-toothed mako sharks, according to new research. The species was dubbed Carcharodon hubbelli to honor Gordon Hubbell, who donated the fossil to the University of Florida's Museum of Natural History. –Discovery News
