To mark its 20-millionth adoption, Petfinder hosted an affair at the St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, N.J., over the summer and turned to local boy Buddy Valastro to help celebrate.
The organization's co-founder, Betsy Banks Saul, visited Carlo's Bakery and requested a cake centered around the theme of "going home." Whipping up one of his signature confections, the Cake Boss star created an impressive animal house adorned with horses, cows and other creatures.
"Growing up, I had this big German shepherd named Duke," Valastro says in the episode, airing Dec. 3 at 10:30 p.m. on TLC. "Having an animal when you come home, they've been waiting for you all day so they're all excited to see you. It's pretty awesome."
Much like his business, his love of animals is something Valastro also inherited from his father.
"Being a baker, you always come home with sweet-smelling and tasting shoes," he says. "When my dad used to come home, Duke used to actually lick his shoes. They had such a bond."
