Dog Flies to Ireland on Wrong Flight in United Airlines Mix-up

Perhaps he just wanted to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Hendrix, a 6-year-old English springer spaniel, was scheduled to depart Newark, N.J., late last week week for Phoenix, Ariz., but a United Airlines mix-up found him traveling to Ireland instead when he was placed on the wrong flight.

"I felt like somebody punched me in the stomach. I mean, that's my dog. That's like my child," said owner Edith Albach, who only received word of the mistake 10 minutes before Hendrix's flight was expected to land in Phoenix. The dog was on his way to meet Albach's daughter, Meredith Grant.

During the detour, Hendrix was walked and fed by members of United's staff, and eventually arrived in Phoenix on March 15. While the airline apologized and issued a full refund, Albach said it isn't enough.

"I just wanted somebody to say we screwed up," she said, while daughter Grant added, "[The person responsible] should not have their job anymore, I mean, he's been on a plane for 24 hours."

The mishap comes six months after another unfortunate incident for a furry flyer on United Airlines: In September, model Maggie Rizer's dog Bea passed away mid-flight.
