Only hours before the show's evening bow, it was announced that Montie, a black-and-white male that served as the play's main understudy, was fired after failing to obey instructions.
But "while there are others who are joining the production as understudies and covers, Montie will remain at the theater indefinitely," publicist Rick Miramontez said in a statement, a nod to Montie's owner, Babette Corelli, who is in charge of training cats for the show.
The role of the unnamed cat who accompanies Holly Golightly during her time in New York is primarily played in the show by an orange feline named Vito Vincent, who is required to exit on cue, be passed around from actor to actor and stay seated during a party scene. As such, his owner and handler, Michael LeCrichia, is reportedly requesting some star service for the animal actor's efforts – namely car and driver service every night.
