We can now add cows to Ryan Gosling’s fan club!

In conjunction with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the actor penned a letter to the National Milk Producers Federation asking them to bring an end to a practice known as dehorning, in which cows’ horns are removed by being burned off, gouged out or chopped off.

“There is absolutely no reason – and no excuse – for the cruel, unnecessary practice of dehorning to continue,” Gosling, 32, writes, advocating for the breeding of naturally hornless cows. “Please do the right thing and take action today.”

The Place Beyond the Pines star is a noted animal lover, and he’s often spotted with his furry companion, dog George, in tow.
