Hollywood's finest and most familiar faces – from Jessica Chastain
to Jessica Biel
– have flocked to the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival
. (Did we mention Jennifer Lawrence
, Leonardo DiCaprio
and Emma Watson
But the true stars of the festival have yet to show up.
Meet the ginger-colored cats who steal scenes from Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake
in the Coen brothers' latest film, Inside Llewyn Davis
. (Fun fact: It took six felines to fill the role of the cat who follows Isaac around 1961 New York in the film.)
Not surprisingly, the four-legged stars were quite the divas. "The trainer pointed out that dogs want to please you, but cats only want to please themselves," Joel Coen told reporters at the festival. "They are not easy to train or guide onscreen. It was a bit of a pain in the ass, but it was all right."
Added Isaac of the felines' movie star-like behavior: "One freaked out and scratched me in the face. That's what happens when you tie a cat to you and run into the subway."
It's a level of breakout stardom the festival hasn't seen since Uggie, the canine star
of 2011's The Artist
. And that star status has clearly gone to these cats' whiskered little heads.
"They had a large rider of requests," joked Timberlake, "a specific type of cat food."
