Going once, going twice … sold to the guinea pig?
Virginia resident Sean McCoy is auctioning off a helmet and hand-made scale armor he stitched together for his beloved guinea pig Lucky, who died just weeks ago.
“Is your pet guinea pig tired of wandering around the house unarmored and vulnerable? Has your guinea pig ever wanted to go with you to a Renaissance Faire but had nothing to wear?” reads McCoy’s product description on eBay. The highest bid as of Thursday afternoon: $24,400.
Yes, you read that right.
“Lucky mostly wore his armor to begrudgingly pose for photos – once on top of a remote-control jetski,” the description continues. “Don’t worry – he never rode the thing in the water … I don’t think he would have had the balance.”
After starting the bid at $5, McCoy intends for all proceeds to go to the Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue charity.
“People’s generosity is blowing my mind. I was hoping for a couple hundred dollars,” he tells Today. “I’m still caught up in the craziness of this week to wrap my head around how awesome people can be.”
Bidding ends Friday, and you can name your price here.
