Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to extraordinary adoptable pets every week. Meet Dee Dee, a 27-lb. cat who's trying to get back on track.

In June, the full-figured feline was given up by her owner to the Dumb Friends League of Denver, Colo., with a lot of extra girth, likely due to overeating and consuming excessive amounts of treats.

She was quickly put into a foster home, her temporary owners tasked with helping her drop those first few pounds. Now, Dee Dee, who is 3 years old, gets daily exercise and is on a special diet for weight control.

"Overweight cats like Dee Dee are becoming a common sight at the Dumb Friends League and at shelters across the Denver area," says public relations manager Chris Gallegos. "This extra weight can lead to diabetes, liver failure and contributes to litter box issues."

To ensure she leads a happy and healthy rest of her life, Dee Dee will need an owner who's able to keep up with her new weight loss regime. If you're up to the task, contact the Dumb Friends League at (303) 751-5772.
