Here's proof that babies bring people together!

Former couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, who parted ways earlier this year after several years of dating, were together Tuesday in Atlanta for the birth of his dog Nietzsche's puppies.

And the experience was definitely an eye-opener for the Vampire Diaries costars, even if they no longer have eyes for each other.

"Live from the whelping box In Atlanta! Panting, pushing, contractions – Wow. Make no mistake about it – Ladies rule," he wrote on Tuesday alongside an Instagram photo of himself cuddling the dog, who welcomed eight little ones. "Women of every species blow my mind … Incredible what mamas go through! Love to you mamas – all over the world. Jeez."

His Vampire Diaries costar, who was in Georgia shooting their TV series, was equally blown away by the experience. "Birthing little Nietzsches … Such a beautiful + equally terrifying thing to witness ...The miracle of life :) #Wow," she Tweeted with a WhoSay photo of the smiling new mom and her adorable brood.

Apparently Nietzsche needed all the support she could get as she embarked on the adventure that is motherhood. "Our little Nietzsche girl is about to drop a ton of love into the world," he wrote on Instagram earlier. "World please send super-positive energy to this very brave and very scared little girl."
