Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to extraordinary adoptable pets every week. Today, we bring you Colby, a hound mix who just wants to snuggle up to someone this holiday.

"In a word, he is AWESOME," says Colleen Learch from the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation of Arlington, Va., who took in the stray with an uncertain past. This 2-year-old "sweetheart" loves many things but at the very top of his list are snuggling and playing.

Active, friendly and great with children and other pets, Colby is a dream dog who charms people with his floppy ears and wagging tail. But the outgoing pup can be cautious, too, especially when he's in new environments, so it's best to take new adventures slow.

"Colby does have a shy side but warms up quickly and shows off his super-affectionate nature and lovable demeanor," says Learch.

Since he loves riding in cars, Colby would make a great road trip companion; also on his list of "favorites" are ear scratches, tummy rubs and plenty of dog treats.

If you think this pup is for you, contact the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation at (703) 295-DOGS. To read more about Colby, click here.

Adopting a pet is an amazing experience – and a big decision! Before bringing a pet into your home it's important to consider your family circumstances and do your research on breeds.
