Adopt Me! Abandoned on Christmas Eve, George Seeks Wonderful New Life

George's former owner didn't leave much explanation for why he had to let the black-haired feline go, just a heartbreaking note left alongside the cat.
"I cannot take care of him anymore," the anonymous letter read. "He is a great indoor/outdoor cat that loves people ... I didn't know what to do with him and I know you are a no-kill shelter. I'm sorry."
Renamed George Bailey in honor of the character from film It's a Wonderful Life, the shelter is trying to find the 7-year-old a new forever home, but the animal, sadly, seems aware of his unfortunate situation.
"It is always emotional for us when we see an adult family pet that is given up without any real explanation," animal services manager Ed Farrelly said in a statement. "You can see the sorrow and confusion on George's face."
The center's veterinarian is giving the cat a full work-up to ensure he's ready to be adopted, including a full dental exam and a standard two-week vaccination wait period. But though he's fallen on hard times, the staff says George has tons of love to give. He's ready to provide any willing owner a "wonderful life."
