Harriet the dog

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Harriet, a 7-year-old pooch who has come a long way since arriving at the Animal Welfare Society
in New Milford, Conn.
The 45-lb. pup may be the picture of perfection now, but this former stray was freezing cold, flea-infested and missing most of her fur on February 4 when animal control officer Audrey McKay captured her and brought her into the shelter.
It's taken a little T.L.C., but in the month since, Harriet's skin has become healthy again and her hair has grown back beautifully. And while it's not a permanent home, the shelter has been a welcome change from the mean streets.
"She loves to give kisses, go for walks with the volunteers, and get her belly rubbed," says kennel assistant Kelsey Lord. "She loves to play with toys and then relax in a cozy and warm bed."
Ever a people person, Harriet can't get enough attention, therefore an owner with a lot of time to spend with her would be ideal. In turn, Harriet will love you right back. "Her favorite person is still the officer who rescued her," says Lord.
If you think Harriet is for you, contact the Animal Welfare Society at (860)354-1350.
