Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We'd like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Ester, a 3-year-old rat terrier mix with a lot of personality.

There are four things on Ester's wish list: a forever home, a warm bed, fuzzy toys and lots of treats. And, chances are good that this sweet little gal will get all of these things one day.

This energetic pooch came to the Dog Adoption & Welfare Group (DAWG) of Santa Barbara, Calif., on New Year's Eve from the Santa Maria County Animal Shelter where she was surrendered by her previous owner for no specific reason.

The stresses of shelter life could be why Ester is a tad shy around strangers, but give her a chance to warm up and she's jolly, spunky and full of positive energy. She's a good dog – who loves to sunbathe! – and isn't afraid to tell certain pups exactly how she feels.

"She gets along with all of the little dogs in our yard and gives clear signals to the other pups when she doesn't want to play," reads a bio available on DAWG's website.

If you think Ester is the little lady you've been searching for, contact the rescue at (805) 681-0561.

Adopting a pet is an amazing experience – and a big decision! Before bringing a pet into your home, it's important to consider your family circumstances and do your research.
