Darla, a 2-year-old miniature Pinscher/Dachshund mix, came to the Humane Society Silicon Valley of Milpitas, California, with a common problem: She was terrified. Darla was previously surrendered to a crowded city shelter after living in her owner's backyard where she rarely interacted with people.
In an effort to calm her, she was placed in foster care, where she made limited progress until one day two little cuties came into her life. Gemini (a.k.a. Gem) and Libra (a.k.a. Libby) are 12-week-old Siamese kittens who immediately helped Darla come out of her shell. With these former strays by her side, Darla is now brave and more eager to explore. She's become very attached to her new buddies – and vice versa – so the shelter is hoping to keep this little family together.
Spend some time with this threesome and they'll steal your heart. Darla's favorite thing to do is snuggle with her person and her two feline friends – and, in case you're wondering, they all can comfortably fit in one lap! The kittens love to play with Darla and will chew on her, chase her tail and groom her when necessary. They'll also happily sleep on top of her (the Instagram possibilities are endless!). Sweet Darla is much happier in her new role as surrogate mother.
"Her job is supervising the kittens," says Amelia, their foster mom. "She'll break them up if they're playing too hard with each other."
