Meet the World’s Ugliest Cat
Don’t be scared: Ugly Bat Boy is harmless and affectionate in spite of his frightful looks
EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
Could anyone love a face like this? Turns out, a lot of people can. Since taking up residence with Dr. Stephen Bassett of New Hampshire’s Exeter Veterinary Hospital, ugly Bat Boy has been the recipient of affection and attention.
HOT OR NOT
Due to his mostly-bald body of dark skin, glowing yellow eyes, and a large patch of hair that runs like a bear into his chest, Ugly has become something of a media sensation.
IT’S A BIRD …
When he was younger and spent most of his time outdoors, Ugly would make some people nervous because they wouldn’t know what to make of him, Bassett says.
Nowadays, Ugly’s life is totally changed from his hunting past. He spends most of his time at reception, being tended to be a coterie of technicians.
TO EACH HIS OWN
Reactions to Ugly can vary depending on the person. “He’s been known to frighten children when he walks into a room,” Bassett says. “Or people want to feel him because his skin feels like pleather.”
“He’s not really an ugly cat,” Bassett says. “He’s a pretty strikingly handsome cat. He really has a beautiful face.”
JUST LIKE CAT
At the end of the day, though? Ugly Bat Boy isn’t any different from your average kitty. “He really is just a regular cat,” Bassett says.
