Much like his brother, ease around animals has long been on display, even as early as 1986, when the royal redhead climbed atop his pony Smokey at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England.
A year later, the third in line to the British throne couldn’t help but steal a snuggle with a local dog during a family holiday in Majorca, Spain.
During his 2003 gap year from university, Harry got a handful of Spike the echidna, a mammal often compared to a spiny anteater, while visiting Sydney’s Taronga Zoo.
While there, he also tried his hand at petting one of the country’s famed koala bears – with a little help from zookeepers.
The prince found a kindred spirit in Guardsman, a horse he got to know while serving as a ranch hand at a Queensland cattle farm during his 2003 trip Down Under.
Harry learned there’s no better way to wind down from a polo match than by hanging with a playful hound after a 2005 charity game at England’s Longdole Polo Club.

And puppy makes squee! The prince’s smile spoke for itself when he met Veyron, a soon-to-be-trained service dog, at the Canine Partners Training Centre in Midhurst, England, in 2010.
Similarly, golden retriever Trudy, also a trainee at Canine Partners, seemed to fill him with glee.

Too close for comfort? The royal got wrapped up by an African rock python during a 2010 philanthropic trip to the Mokolodi Education Centre in Gaborne, Botswana.
Later on, he and made a leisurely cheetah’s acquaintance while touring Mokolodi’s grounds.
This precious pooch scored some face time with Harry when he visited a children’s education center during his 2010 South Africa trip in Semonkong, Lesotho.
Harry was back near his beloved ponies again in March 2012 for the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup, which benefited his South African charity, while touring Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The royal practiced his skills as an uncle – on William and wife ‘s cocker spaniel Lupo – in May, petting the royal pup after the Audi Polo Challenge in Ascot, England.
