'Tails' of Courage & Survival: Real-Life Pet HeroesRescue pets ... to the rescue! Meet five brave furry friends who have paid it forward

When Rocky's owner Floyd Tibbetts of Susanville, Calif., collapsed during a hike due to a low heart rate, the 4-year-old Labrador retriever licked his face and hands to keep him awake on what ended up being a seven-hour trek home. "Floyd would have died in the woods, and we would have never found him," said Tibbetts's wife, Dawn. The dog's life-saving actions earned him a spot in the running for The Humane Society of the United States' Pets of Valor Award, which honors shelter pets – with a little help from celebrity spokesdog Uggie – who put their best paws forward when their families were in need. (Vote for the hero you want to take home top prize here by Friday.)
