“I was surprised, but not surprised,” Seacrest said during his radio show Monday morning. And while he wasn’t expecting the interview to be without drama or incident, “I definitely did not know he was going to do that.”
“That,” of course, would be The Dictator dumping the contents of an urn – that supposedly contained the ashes of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il – all over the tuxedo-clad E! host.
After agreeing to do the interview, “in the back of my head I’m thinking, this guy isn’t coming as The Dictator to not do something. To what extent, I don’t know.” But as their chat progressed, Seacrest began to feel a sense of unease.
“You know in your gut, you feel like, this is going too normally. It just seemed like, he didn’t put all that on to just answer a couple questions in character,” says the red carpet veteran.
When The Dictator spilled the ashes on him (“it wasn’t the wind,” Seacrest quipped) however, the host was prepared, thanks to some sound advice from his mother.
“My mom told me when I was a mini red carpet reporter, ‘You always want to have two jackets. You never know what’s going to happen. You never know what you’re going to spill on yourself and you want to be red carpet-ready at all times. That’s your job.’ So I had another jacket.”
As for the mess, Seacrest has a theory as to what was really inside that urn.
“Because I was watching my carbohydrate intake all week,” he joked, “I’m sure it was pancake mix.”
