Here’s to the soundtracks.
The 2014 Academy Awards were as much about the songs that brought these films to life as they were about the coveted statuettes.
With a handful of performances punctuating memorable moments – like Liza Minelli’s blue streak on the red carpet, Lupita Nyong’o’s emotional acceptance speech and Jared Leto’s moving tribute to his mother – here’s who else stole the show.
Pharrell – who wore one of his signature hats to the show – kicked things off with his hit, “Happy.”
Next, Karen O and Ezra Koenig (lead singer of Vampire Weekend) performed “The Moon Song,” a quiet number featured in Spike Jonze’s Her.
U2’s song for Mandela “Ordinary Love” brought the audience to their feet.
