Actor Jason Biggs and TV personality Daisy Fuentes were some of the two-legged guests in attendance with their canines, who had plenty of doggie distractions to keep them busy. Pocket-sized puppies and bigger pets roamed the yard, played in the specially designed dog yard and posed for photographer Grace Chon, who has done portraits for celebrities including Anna Faris’s three pugs.
"People are really getting into having special pictures taken of their pets," says Chon. "They want something casual and fun of themselves and their beloved companions, but they want it professionally done – not just a snapshot."
The lounge showcased some of the most popular pet trends of the moment, including car seats for dogs by designer Melissa Kann of Doggie Driving. She's come up with a sturdy fiberglass seat so that even the smallest dogs can safely see out car windows.
"Sandra Bullock’s tiny rescue dog, Ruby, was born without front legs as was Ruby’s sister, Slinky," says Kann. "Slinky already has one of these seats and Sandra told Jay Leno [on YouTube] that she needs one too."
Tucked into the back garden, surrounded by crystals, Janet Hicks, an animal communicator, was giving advice to owners and their pets. Hicks has helped celebrities search for lost animals, deal with behavior issues and even grieve over the death of a pet.
Nearby Pam Holt, a small animal massage therapist was calming a nervous Chihuahua with her gentle touch. Holt has worked on Cesar Millan’s pit bull, Daddy, and Alicia Silverstone’s dogs. "More people are getting massage for their dogs," says Holt. "It really helps older dogs with arthritis. People say their pets are so much more comfortable after a treatment."
Just like their Golden Globe counterparts, pets were trying on accessories. Beasty Bling neckwear was available for the big and the smallest of pets — and their masters too.
And, of course, no doggie event would be complete without a fashion show! Boutique D.O.G. showcased evening and daytime looks for glam puppies and their elders. Like the Golden Globes, there was a charitable component to the festivities: The silent auction benefited Best Friends Animal Society of Utah.
