Sit, Steep and Soothe: Herbal Tea for Your Aging Dog

Many of us have curled up on the couch with a hot cup of tea thanks to its relaxing, healing qualities. For centuries tea has been a trusted remedy for digestion and other health problems, and now, thanks to The Honest Kitchen, your dog can experience similar benefits from their very own herbal tea.

It's called Lithe tea, and it's a special blend formulated to help canines with healthy bone and joint function (the company suggests consulting with your vet before serving it to your dog, and avoid serving to cats). The fragrant dry mixture, which contains alfalfa, white willow bark, yucca, ginger, red clover and boswellia, was created specifically for aging dogs who have been diagnosed with mobility issues.

Herbalist Jennifer Neal, creator of organic Dreamsweet medicinal teas for humans, helped create Lithe tea, which comes in a 6-oz. canister of herbs ($16). No tea bags are necessary, just put the suggested amount of tea for your dog's weight in a cup (a chart on the back of the canister will guide you) and add boiling water. Once steeped, pour the warm or chilled brew over your pet's food or serve it as a water alternative. Curling up on the couch with your pooch is optional, but relaxation is recommended!
